SCHOOL'S OUT FOREVER
SCHOOL FREE FOREVER. Why I left the teaching profession, and why it wasn't so easy.
Although Annika Reuter is the daughter of teachers and finds teachers dreadful, after graduating from high school she enrolled in teacher training without a clear direction, ambitiously planning a career as a civil servant. She ended up teaching two subjects at a grammar school, but the endless responsibilities and immense pressure increasingly took a toll on her mental and physical health. After fourteen years of constant marking, she decided to leave the civil service. This decision threw everyone around her into turmoil: How could she possibly give up such a secure job? Bureaucratic hurdles, paralyzing beliefs, toxic structures, misunderstanding, and unsolicited opinions littered her path, and Annika Reuter realized just how difficult it is to break with convention.
Paperback and ebook available everywhere (including bookstores). Audiobook on Spotify, Google Play, or Audible.
Why I am writing
I write because I simply can't do otherwise. Actually, I write almost every day. Writing is one of my most important outlets for sorting through, understanding, and processing life. Thoughts need to get out, experiences and connections need to be recorded.
Language has been a constant companion throughout my life. I studied English and French (with two semesters of Spanish) and also worked intensively with language for 14 years as a teacher. I love understanding grammatical structures and rules. For me, language is something living: with it, we communicate, share experiences, compare our experiences, open up new spaces, and allow others to participate in our own world.
At some point, I asked myself: Why shouldn't I make all this accessible to others? I now realize that this is precisely where one of my talents lies: presenting complex topics in an understandable, clear, and humorous way. It's no coincidence that I was a teacher for 14 years. Today, I'm essentially continuing in the same vein. Only now, instead of using curricula and textbooks, I'm working with my own topics and in my own books.
But the real reason I don't just leave my writing on my computer goes deeper: I want to move people. I want to show them with my stories and experiences: Hey, you're not alone. You don't have to be ashamed or limit yourself. You're allowed to feel everything that's inside you. You're allowed to find your own voice. And you're allowed to discover what this life has in store for you. Accompanying people on their own path to healing is my deepest desire. Writing is one of the ways I've found to do that.

SCHOOL EXIT
Sometimes a new path means leaving the old one behind. After fourteen years as an English and French teacher at a secondary school, Annika Reuter left her teaching position at the age of forty. Leaving the school system became the starting point for much of what followed: new career paths, books, music, coaching – and an intense exploration of what a life that truly suits one's own personality could look like. At the same time, her story continued to resonate: television and radio appearances, interviews, and podcasts followed, and her personal decision to leave the school system sparked a wave in which many others found themselves reflected.

A LITTLE HANDBOOK
This little handbook series is for everyone who enjoys learning new things, understanding connections, and thinking outside the box. Sometimes it's about family, relationships, or personal development, sometimes about spirituality, anger, cats, or witches – always with plenty of life experience, knowledge, humor, and very practical advice. And because there are still so many topics worth writing about, Annika Reuter gets support from artificial intelligence. The ideas, knowledge, and perspectives come from her, while the AI helps to get everything down on paper more quickly. Afterward, it's reviewed, revised, supplemented, deleted, and edited until it becomes a small handbook. In this way, the series can gradually grow, offering as much helpful knowledge as possible in the most convenient format.

TELL ME, ANNIKA...
What actually happens when you voluntarily give up a lifetime civil service position? In this interview, I answer the questions I've been asked repeatedly since leaving the school system: about security and money, demotion and pension, physical consequences, my criticism of the school system – and the question of whether I would ever go back.
